our research projects

KW automotive stands for innovation and progress

KW automotive stands for innovation and progress – values that we apply with passion to the research and development of our chassis technologies. In close cooperation with students, lecturers and research institutes, we develop pioneering driving dynamics solutions for the automotive industry.
Our testing facilities at the Fichtenberg headquarters and our use in motorsport enable us and our cooperation partners to carry out practical research and make rapid technological progress.

This Is What We Are Researching

Students experience the future of suspension technology with us – directly from our state-of-the-art test center in Fichtenberg. We are researching innovative solutions for all aspects of driving dynamics, from super sports cars to project vehicles. Students benefit from our comprehensive know-how, which we have gained from years of project work and first-class expertise in motorsport.

Our Cooperation Partners

A large part of our commitment flows into research collaborations. We support educational institutions and research centers with our testing facilities at the Fichtenberg headquarters.

Künzelsau University of Applied Sciences

With the Institute for Digitalization and Electric Drives at Künzelsau University of Applied Sciences, we have a renowned educational institution in the R&D sector at our side. Our projects with Künzelsau University of Applied Sciences focus on applied research into the digitalization of electromagnetic drives, sensor technology and measurement technology.

German Aerospace Center (DLR)

As part of the “Strategy for Artificial Intelligence”, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research actively supports the transfer of knowledge from research to industry. One example of this is the “Development of AI-based chassis control” project, in which we played a key role. Our goal: to automate the development process of control systems to a greater extent and improve the performance of spring-damper systems in vehicles. Together with the German Aerospace Center (DLR), we developed a software solution that efficiently controls adaptive suspension dampers.

Formula Student

Since 2006, we have been supporting young engineering students in the “Formula Student” competition so that they can gain practical experience in design, production and efficiency. The competition is organized by the Association of German Engineers (VDI) and has an American counterpart, the “Formula SAE”, which has been taking place for over 30 years. In both competitions – in Germany and the USA – the teams rely on our proven technology. In addition, we offer young engineers the opportunity to use our test center for their data collection. We simulate various parameters such as chassis movements, wheel load fluctuations, tire influences and more under reproducible conditions on our state-of-the-art 7-post vehicle dynamics test bench. Between 50 and 100 measurements are possible per day.
