our research projects

KW automotive loves innovation.

KW automotive loves innovation. This is why we conduct research into new suspension innovations for the automotive industry both independently and in cooperation with various educational and research institutions. This symbiosis allows us to take major technological steps in the shortest possible time and strengthen Germany as a business location. We use our in-house testing facilities for testing.

What We Research

Thanks to our broad-based test center at our headquarters in Fichtenberg, we conduct independent research in various areas of our daily work. Our research ranges from individual suspension components to the design of the entire driving dynamics of super sports cars and project vehicles. In addition, we derive our findings from the toughest field of application for the road: motorsport. We test our KW coilovers not only in-house, but also on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Our Reserach Partners

A large part of our commitment flows into research cooperations. We support educational institutions and research centers with our testing facilities at the Fichtenberg headquarters.

Künzelsau University of Applied Sciences

With the Institute for Digitalization and Electric Drives at Künzelsau University of Applied Sciences, we have a renowned educational institution in the R&D sector at our side. Our projects with Künzelsau University of Applied Sciences focus on applied research into the digitalization of electromagnetic drives, sensor technology and measurement technology.

German Aerospace Center

As part of the “Strategy for Artificial Intelligence”, the German Federal Government for Education and Research is promoting the transfer of basic research to industry. We have actively supported the joint project “Development of AI-based chassis control”. Our aim was to implement greater automation of the controller design process and better control for semi-active spring-damper units in the chassis area. Together with the German Aerospace Center, we were able to develop a software control solution for adaptive chassis dampers.

Formula Student

As part of the Formula Student design competition, which has been held since 2006, we support numerous young engineering students to gain more practical experience in the areas of design, production and economic efficiency and to conduct research on projects within the industry.

The competition is organized by the Association of German Engineers. The American equivalent is Formula SAE, which has been taking place for more than 30 years. In both the German Formula Student and the American Formula SAE, the student teams repeatedly rely on our technology. In addition, we offer the prospective engineers the opportunity to use our test center for data acquisition.

On our hydraulic 7-post driving dynamics test bench, we test numerous parameters such as body movement, body frequencies, wheel load fluctuations, tire influences and many other aspects under conditions that can be reproduced at any time. Between 50 and 100 measurements are possible per day.
