From Working Student to Head of Hydraulic System Development

During my bachelor’s thesis, we laid the foundation for today’s DDC suspensions. I was involved in exciting OE customer projects in the field of driving dynamics and product characteristics. I soon had the opportunity to take over the management of my own team. This gave me the opportunity to pass on knowledge and insights to young talents and to help shape product development and company development.”

Studies and Diploma
Michael’s academic journey was shaped by his passion for automobiles and his keen interest in chassis design, recognizing its pivotal role in enhancing vehicle customization and performance. Pursuing a degree in automotive engineering at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Michael laid the foundation for a promising career in the automotive sector from the outset.

Further Development
The close link between theory and practice and the opportunity to combine a practical semester and final thesis with an employer were arguments in favor of a move. Michael left his home in Lower Saxony and set up camp in Fichtenberg, Swabia. At the end of his studies (final grade 1.5) and the associated start at KW automotive as a development engineer in the research department, Michael quickly found a trusting environment in which to grow personally and professionally into new subject areas in line with his strengths and qualifications.

Management Responsibility
Within KW automotive, Michael now serves as Head of Hydraulic System Development and is therefore an important part of the management. In his current position, Michael leads a team of now 20 engineers who report to him either directly or indirectly. His people are responsible for developing new solutions in small series projects for car manufacturers. His motivation as well as his ambition to tune suspensions in the best possible way and to further develop them by means of direct customer feedback have made him an outstanding expert in the supervision of KW automotive’s own 7-Post test bench.
